Lemon Law
What is the Lemon Law?
The "Lemon Law" is designed to help vehicle owners who have problems with warranty repairs. The law allows the owner to request an arbitration hearing through the Attorney General’s Office. At the hearing, the arbitrator will decide whether a consumer’s claim meets the requirements under the law.
Which Vehicles Are Eligible?
The law covers most classes of motor vehicles including "demonstrators" (Note: a military exception may apply to the registration requirement), however laws may differ from state to state.
You should check the Lemon Law that pertains to your state and research further lemon law resource listings.
For example, according to the the Attorney General of California website, in the State of California, the Lemon Law:
"...applies to a new motor vehicle that is bought or used primarily for personal, family or household purposes. The law also applies to a new motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight under 10,000 pounds that is bought or used primarily for business purposes by a person, including a partnership, limited liability company, corporation, association, or any other legal entity, to which not more than five motor vehicles are registered in this state".
